A Hidden Gem on the Way to Ostel Bay – The Bothy at Kilbride Farm

A Hidden Gem on the Way to Ostel Bay – The Bothy at Kilbride Farm

If you’ve ever taken the walk out towards Ostel Bay, you’ll know it’s one of those spots that just feels a bit special. But what makes it even better is stumbling across The Bothy at Kilbride Farm – a proper little gem that’s become a bit of a favourite for locals and visitors alike.

Set right at the start of the track down to the beach, The Bothy at Kilbride Farm is exactly what you’d hope for in a countryside café – welcoming, unpretentious, and full of good things to eat. It actually grew out of a pop-up café that used to run from a marquee, and it’s now settled into its charming “bothy” setting, which suits it perfectly.

And honestly, it’s the kind of place that just feels like it belongs there.

Proper Food, Done Right

This isn’t your average grab-and-go stop. The Bothy has built up a bit of a reputation for hearty, homemade food that hits the spot after a coastal walk. Think sausage rolls, ploughman’s lunches, and cakes that you’ll still be thinking about on the drive home.

The carrot cake in particular seems to have its own fan club, and from what you hear around the place, it’s well deserved.

It’s the kind of menu that everyone loves - just good, honest food done properly.

The People Make the Place

A big part of what makes The Bothy so loved is the warm welcome you get when you arrive. Owners Morris and Annette have clearly put their heart into the place, and it shows.

You’ll often hear people mention how friendly they are – the sort who’ll have a chat, remember a face, and make you feel like you’ve been coming for years even if it’s your first visit.

That kind of atmosphere can’t be faked, and it’s a big reason people keep coming back.

More Than Just a Café Stop

What’s great about The Bothy is that it’s not just somewhere to grab a coffee – it’s part of the whole Ostel Bay experience. Whether you stop in before your walk, or reward yourself on the way back, it fits perfectly into the day.

There’s something about sitting there with a brew, looking out over the countryside, knowing the beach is just down the track… it’s hard to beat.

A Local Favourite for a Reason

Places like this don’t stay hidden for long, and The Bothy at Kilbride Farm is definitely one of those “if you know, you know” spots that’s quickly becoming a must-visit.

It’s simple really – good food, good people, and a cracking location.

If you’re heading out towards Ostel Bay anytime soon, do yourself a favour and stop in. Chances are, like most of us, you’ll be planning your next visit before you’ve even left.
